Wedding Memories - Questions to ask your Videographer

You may think that having a video is just a duplicate of having photographs, but this is not necessarily true. Photography and videography serve different purposes. A good photographer will catch all the appropriate poses and candid (informal) pictures and a good video will let you see and hear similar scenes in progress.

This list of questions will help you wind the right videographer.

1. Ask for recommendations from banquet managers and photographers. This may be a benefit since the vendor has worked there before and is familiar with the layout and lighting.

2. Make sure that your videographer does not use a regular VHS camera. The standard video camera for professionals is S-VHS.

3. View full-length demonstration tapes of videographers and check them carefully for lighting, sound and the inclusion of important wedding traditions.

4. Can they work amicably with your chosen photographer? (It's imperative that the two work together well and don't get into each other's way).

5. Ask how many cameras will be used in the shooting, the name of the cameraman, how many final copies you will receive and the length of the video.

6. What package are you getting? How many hours does it include? Does he work on an eight hour shift or is his fee valid for the entire function regardless of its duration?

7. What sort of background music and special effects would he add to the videotape?

8. How soon after the function can he give you the video?
