Bridal Shopping - Beauty Tips - I

So you thought that bridal glow came from those little pots and pans and a few deft strokes by your local make-up artiste? Not even she is that good, I assure you!

And that superficial shine is not for you, the millennium woman, anyway not for you layers and layers of make-up to cover up those little flaws in your skin.

You know that any glow has to be from within. More important, you know it has to last in the months after marriage, not just on your wedding day.

And that glow can only come naturally. With a little help from aromatherapy.

Get ready

An aromatherapeutic pre-bridal treatment commences four weeks before D-day. This means that you would need to visit your aromatherapist once a week.

There are four basic steps:

Detoxifying in the first week,
Remineralising in the second,
Rejuvenating in the third, and
Radiance in the fourth.

Week 1

This is the week of detoxification--which involves the removing of all the toxins from the body, both inside and outside.

Aromatherapy massage: You start with an exfoliating mud pack applied on your body. It is scrubbed off when semi-dry, with special emphasis on the elbows, kness and all corners of the body. This sloughs off all the dead skin.

Then follows a seaweed wrap. Seaweed wrap. Seaweed is known for its exfoliating properties.

Hair: During the four weeks of this treatment, abandon your hair drier --you'll be using it enough in the first few months after marriage. So strengthen your hair now, make it healthier in these four weeks.

Then go in for a head massage with hot oil--a mixture of castor oil, sunflower oil, almond oil and coconut oil in equal measures, infused with a few drops of essential oil like ylang , known to be good for the hair as well as an aphrodisiac. Glycerine and malt vinegar are also added to balance the acid in the hair. This massage is followed by a hot towel wrap to help the oil penetrate into the scalp.

Face: Head for pearl facial to exfoliate and clear your skin of all blemish. Pearl has excellent detoxifying properties--it deep cleanses and is known to be very soolhing.

Hands and feet: On each of your visits to the aromatherapist, a manicure and pedicure is de rigeur. The pedicure involves using a wax pack to remove dead skin, soothe cracked heels and soften your feet.

You could also being nail cultivation therapy. After the manicure, a coat of colourless nail polish is applied. You will be asked to apply a coat of colourless nail polish every day for a week until you go back for your next manicure and pedicure.

Diet: Your prescribed diet will include a drink made of honey and lime juice added to hot water every morning. Stick to a fruit or vegetable diet for at least two days every week.

It's best if you eat only vegetarian this first week of detoxification. And drink eight to 10 (or more) glasses of water every day.

Body: Meditate and breathe deeply. Inhale to the count of seven, hold for a count of one, and exhale to the count of seven. Gradually advance to inhaling to the count of seven, and holding for a count of three and exhaling to the count of seven. Exercise.

Sprinkle some salt (to detoxify and clear the aura) and a few drops of essential oil and ylang ylang into your bath water.
