How do you want to appear on your wedding day? Do you want to be demure, radiant, glamorous, ethereal, dramatic or minimalist? Or do you want a 'combination look'? Radiant and minimalist?
To achieve the look you choose, you must decide from the onset what you want for yourself. The key word here is the 'emotion' you feel with regard to the big day.
When I begin a collection, I search first for the underlying emotion. When I get that special 'feeling', I make sure all the pieces in the collection are flavoured with it. Once I've decided that the emotion is 'aury', 'fluid' or whatver, the rest is easy. And it is the same principle that works to create a 'look'.
Colour
The first visual impact is always colour. Choose colours that are lattering, modern and individual. Whether in make-up, fabric or accessories, the colour you select should make you the centre of attraction.
When choosing colour, ask the make-up artists, designers or anyone with a sense of style for advice.
The face and hair
Always remember to work with an entire look. Do not isolate the makeup from the clothes. Begin with the 'emotion' you have chosen and translate that look first for your face. If you wish to be radiant, decide the choice of 'glowing' make-up you could use. Explore every possibility.
Once you have decided the look for your face, plan the hair. Do you want to go for flowers, jewelled pins or a simple hairstyle?
When I design garments for a bride, I always imagine how her face will look. All emphasis should be on your face that day. It is well worth investing in a professional make-up artist. After all, you should indulge yourself on this on your wedding day. And when you compare the few thousands you will pay a make-up artist against the total cost of the wedding, you will realise that the indulgence costs you only a drop in the ocean.
Once you've decided the colours for your face and the style of hair, the rest is easy. The next stage is choosing the jewellery.
Jewellery
Choose jewellery that goes with your look and does not distract from your face. The earings should enhance your cheekbones, the nose ring should not be overpowering and the necklace should sit well, in a flattering manner, to elongate the neck. Similarly, the hair jewellery should accentuate the 'look' and the flowers.
When choosing jewellery, consider whether you will be able to wear it later. Select bangles that are not too chunky. Even on the big day, the last thing you need is a physical weighing down amid all the inherent tension.
